Great article. Thanks for sharing your four reasons. Sadly, SO MANY will resonate from personal experience with each of your reasons.

It reminded Josh Packard's list in his book Church Refugees. He interviewed a hundred people who left the church and identified four common themes:

1. They wanted community… and got judgment.

2. They tried to affect the life of others and the church… and got bureaucracy.

3. They wanted a conversation about questions and doubts… and got doctrine.

4. They wanted meaningful engagement with the world… and got moral prescriptions.

I love the freedom you have found and the hope you share!

I was a pastor for 14 years. Now that I have left the church, I love connecting with others who are reimagining their faith for a better world!
